Eusebios of Nikomedeia

Eusebios of Nikomedeia
Arian bishop of Nikomedeia (qq.v.) and leader of the Arian party who was exiled in 325 for refusing to sign the decrees of the Council of Nicaea (q.v.). Recalled by Constantine I the Great (q.v.) in 327, he became a trusted advisor to the emperor (q.v.), baptizing him on his death bed. Constantius II (q.v.) made him bishop of Constantinople (q.v.) in 338, and it was during his tenure as bishop of the capital that he ordained Ulfilas (q.v.), the so-called bishop of the Goths. He died around 342, and, thus, did not live to see the failure of Arianism, or of his introduction of future emperor Julian (q.v.) to the Holy Scriptures.
